Should McDonald’s Change It’s Name?

Posted by on December 20, 2011  about Aubrey Ann, Comments are off

On the way home today we passed McDonald’s and Aubrey Ann told me (Brandon), “McDonald’s has been there too long.  They should go somewhere else.”

Me: What would go into that building?

AA: Maybe a new store.

Me: Like what kind of store, what would the name be?

AA: Maybe, Donald World or Cheese Burrito King.

Me: What restaurant are you thinking about right now?

AA: Burrito King.

Her mind is very linear and it’s often fun to try to predict what she’s thinking based on what she’s talking about.

Even though the kids have all been sick, we have still found a way to have fun with our advent activities.  Here are some pics from a few of our advent activities this last week.

Elfie strikes again! Days 4-6

Elfie has been up to his same old tricks. Check out the places we have found him this last week!

For some reason, some of the pictures are cropped funny.  I would ask my resident computer tech, but he is currently working on our  Christmas cards. Thank you honey!  Sorry if they don’t show up right.

Advent Activities Update 2

Posted by on December 8, 2011  about Family, Comments are off

Here are some pictures from our recent advent activities.  We have been having so much fun, and AA is truly enjoying everything about our advent calendar this year!  Can’t wait till little Landon understands more.  For now, he really enjoys taking the cards after AA reads them and running around the house with them.  I think that is about the extent of his understanding.  :)

Our Nativity

Landon is in the process of cutting his two bottom molars, and he is just not a happy camper. When Landon is teething or sick, his normal easy going personality totally disappears and he turns into what I have affectionately called, a teething monster. He is whiney, wants to be held almost constantly, and basically nothing makes him happy besides bananas.

Except being outside. Being outside cures all the teething fussiness. So out of desperation, we headed outside, and I decided it would be a good time to take some pictures of my yard Nativity. I have wanted one of these for years, but just have never found the right one. I wanted something easy to store, light weight, but nothing “blow up”. Finally, we found this set, and I am very pleased. The kids have really enjoyed “playing” with it, and it is fun to see the kids walking home from school stop and take a gander. I don’t even mind the neighbor kids all over our yard!

So here are some pictures of our much needed break from the teething monster.

Elfie Strikes Again! – Day 3

Posted by on December 8, 2011  about Family, Comments are off

In the middle of the night last night (while Elfie was living it up in the North Pole), AA woke up very sick. She was vomiting, and just generally feeling crummy. So I wasn’t sure how excited she would be to find Elfie in the morning. Well, I shouldn’t have wondered. AA was thrilled to go searching through the house to find our sneaky little friend. And boy did he ever have a surprise for us this morning!

Our little Elfie decided to go fishing!

Looks like he caught something too! Hey, is that a goldfish cracker?

He even left a little fishing rod with a magnet attached and some letter "fish" so the kids could get some practice!

Even Landy got to take a turn fishing!

Looks like she caught something!

Thanks Elfie, for making my sick girl, and teething boy smile again!

Elfie Strikes Again!- Day Two

Elfie is up to his same old mischief!  Check out what we woke up to this morning!

Meet our new friend!

Posted by on December 7, 2011  about Family, Comments are off

We have been so blessed to be introduced to a new friend in our house this season.  He didn’t arrive in the traditional manner.  He chose to fly down the chimney (although we would have been perfectly willing to greet him at the front door).  AA was very tickled to meet our new friend whom she affectionately named “Elfie”.  Landon was more thrilled with what Elfie left behind for us.  A breakfast straight from the North Pole!

This is what we wroke up to in the morning. Elfie is a sneaky elf!

This was the look on her face when she saw all the Christmas magic Elfie brought for us!

Here is Elfie's note to us.

A North Pole Breakfast.

Adding snow to the pancakes!

I think Landy approves!

Another tradition for the Hopkins' household. I pray that these fun little ways to build memories are passed on for years to come.

Thank you lord for the opportunity to build tradition, regardless of how silly they may be, into the lives of our children.  It is our traditions that instill a sense of unity and legacy in our home.

Now we just have to wait and see what kind of trouble Elfie gets in these next couple of weeks.  I have heard that these elves tend to be a bit mischievieous at times.  :)   I am sure we will see.  Every morning AA and Landon will be on the search to find Elfie and see what position he has found himself in.  Every night he leaves the house and reports to Santa about how we act during the day, but I guess he sometimes has a little extra time on his hands when he gets back, because he certainly finds himself in some precarious situations.  ;)   You will just have to wait for tomorrows post to what that little booger has gotten into.  I can’t wait to see the kids faces each morning!

Advent 2011- update one

Posted by on December 6, 2011  about Family, Comments are off

We have officially begun our Advent season this year.  During this time comes many fun things, but one of our favorite things about the Christmas season is our Advent calendar full of fun daily activities for the kiddos and adults alike.  I always seek to make these activities memory makers for us all.  I love how it keeps me accountable to infusing our daily life with traditions that will last a lifetime.  It also provides me many opportunities to focus on Christ this season.  Our daily activities also include Bible verses that take us through the entire story surrounding the advent. Each year that passes AA grows more and more accustomed to our tradition, and the story of the Birth of our Savior.  Advent activities isn’t about keeping us all busy, or jamming in just one more activity to our already busy schedules.  It is about taking times to make intentional memories centered around Christ.  Being an intentional parent isn’t always easy, but it is always good.

Here are a few pictures from our first advent activities.  We spent a couple of days in the beginning of December in Bakersfield, so I didn’t take pictures of the activities while we were there.
