This Week in Homeschool

Good evening friends! I am currently enjoying a few moments of quiet time while Brandon and AA are at volleyball practice. Landon is happily snoozing away, safe in his crib. What better time for me reflect on how we spent our week growing in the Lord and together as a family?
As I stated in our last homeschool update, I wanted to do a unit study approach this week and focus on the first Thanksgiving. So we took a much needed break from our regular curriculum, and just focused on the story of Thanksgiving. I think AA and I both benefit from using a variety of teaching styles and resources. I know I get bored with teaching the same thing day after day, and I know Aubrey Ann gets bored too. So this was a welcome change for us both!
I must admit, I truly enjoyed this weeks lessons, as I learned so much more about Thanksgiving than I ever did in school!
Here are a few pictures from this week!
- Doing some research on the Wampanoag indians
- I love what AA does with her tongue when she is concentrating.
- I wrote questions about the Native Americans on each feather, and AA wrote the answers.
- Adding beads to her headress
- Ta-Da!
- Pouring the ingredients for Native American Fry bread
- Yum!
- We used the fry bread to make Navajo tacos for dinner.
- Writing a thank you note to a wonderful woman in our church who let us come apple picking at her farm.
- My little apple picker!
- AA was particularly interested in the way the puritans dressed.
- I told AA to write a sentence about the Pilgrims, and this is what she came up with!
- Never where the Pilgrims so colorful!
We had a couple of other neat activities that I didn’t get pictures of (this is how my weeks usually end up. I start off great at taking pictures but as the week goes on, I take fewer and fewer pictures! Maybe one of these days I will get better about the pics!)
AA also completed a map activity showing the direction the Mayflower sailed. She also read several books about the first Thanksgiving, and we did a (several!) reinactments using her stuffed animals. She also watched a video series about the Pilgrims.
It was a fantastic week, full of many many reasons to be thankful! Thank you for all of your support on our home school journey. It isn’t always easy, and it sure is nice to know I have a team of people praying for us.

Looks like fun. I know I am learning things from her that she is learning from you!! Way to go Mommy
